FAMILY QUILTS

Pat (Wimmer) Gaul is the quilt maker in the Gaul family

Pat came up with an idea to make a Family Quilt for one of the first reunions. Her thought was, after the reunion the quilt would become a traveling quilt. Each family member that wanted to, could display the quilt in their home for a period of time, and then send it on to the next family member.

As each family reunion came and went, the number of quilts grew. It was decided at one of the reunions; that hosts of previous reunions would choose and keep one of the quilts. Also, the host of the next reunion would pick a theme for their reunion and the quilt would include this theme. After the reunion, the quilt would become theirs. There was one stipulation; each quilt would be brought to future reunions so they could be displayed.

Each family or family member that wanted to participate in the making of the quilt, would design their square with the current theme in mind, and then send it to Pat and it would be included in the quilt.

The 2007 Family Reunion will include the eighth quilt.

These family heirlooms will be admired and cherished for many years to come.

Thanks Pat.
